Poochoonz Roolz

Poochoonz is a game that we play once a month. Basically, one player is the judge or "choonmeister" and the others each submit a choon that they think the choonmeister might like. The choonmeister then choozes the winning choon and the player who submitted it becomes next month's choonmeister.

Here's how it works.

• Play begins on the 1st day of the month. The choonmeister should announce commencement of play with a short introduction emailed to pooclub and copied into the Choonmeister's Introduction section of the Poochoonz page.

• Throughout the next two weeks, players submit their choonz by filling in a record on the Player's Choonz table on the Poochoonz page.

• Players stand a much better chance of winning if they submit an MP3 file of their choon or provide a link to their choon on a website such as youtube or we7.com . After all, if the choonmeister is unfamiliar with a choon he or she is unlikely to pick it. MP3 files should be placed on some webspace that is accessible to pooclubbers (or at the very least, the choonmeister). • Players have two weeks to get their choonz in. The choonmeister does not have to accept any choonz nominated after the 14th day of the month.

• The choonmeister has the rest of the month to pick the winning choon and may do so as early as the 15th day. The choonmeister must announce the winner by poomail and should also copy this to the Choonmeister's Verdict section of the Poochoonz page.

• The player who nominated the winning choon becomes next month's choonmeister.
• If the choonmeister fails to announce a verdict by the end of the month then poochoonz's presenter Keith Chegwin will chooz the winner.

The choonmeister is permitted to offer a certain amount of leeway in the way that choonz are proposed or when no more nominations will be accepted. For example, if the choonmeister knows a nominated choon well, he or she may not require an MP3 file to be provided. It is up to the discretion of the choonmeister how the game is run during his or her month as choonmeister.

Finally, you need to understand the criteria for choozing the winning choon. These are entirely down to the choonmeister. Apart from the roolz above, the choonmeister is el supremo and may chooze the winner for any reason whatsoever. It is not the aim of poochoonz to submit the best choon or even for the choonmeister to judge which choon is best. The aim of each player is to choonz a choon that they think the choonmeister will pick.

Players are not expected to like the choonz they submit. In fact even the choonmeister doesn't have to like the winning choon as this is picked according to his or her own criteria, though it is helpful if these are outlined in the introduction and used to justify the verdict. Once the verdict is announced, the choonmeister need give no further reasons for the choice and need not enter into any further correspondence on the matter.

So try to think carefully what the choonmeister might go for, get into the choonmeister’s psyche, probe him or her for clooz about what sort of choon is likely to be well received. The game is one of cunning and logic – not moozic.
